It is safe to say that most people live with good intentions. We all want to be healthy and live a conscientious life, but the truth is we get drunk and eat fatty foods without exercising. For women, the moment where thinking is forced into shifting is when they become pregnant. Once you are pregnant, your body is no longer your own and is, instead, on loan for under a year and it is up to you to make the right choices for your future child. Knowing how to be healthy durning pregnancy can seem daunting, but there are some key things to understand.
There is, indeed, no shortage of people wanting to offer advice. Friends and family will give you all of their time tested recommendations while, as the pregnancy gets to the point that you are showing, strangers will accost you at all times with their own advice and judgments. During pregnancy a woman’s body is truly not her own in a variety of ways.
This is unfortunate and a nuisance, but for the most part people are filled with good intentions so it is best to just ignore it and get on with the process. Being healthy during all trimesters of your pregnancy is easy and starts with being active. There is a stereotype of the pregnant woman eschewing activity and taking it easy, but in truth you should strive to continue an exercise program.
Pushing your body to its limits is certainly not the wisest choice, but there is no reason to not exercise. Staying active has benefits against the future when you will be giving birth and trying to get back on your feet. A fit body always bounces back faster and easier. If you are not active now, there is no catch up to play. You can just take a walk every day and the benefits will accumulate over time.
Beyond exercise you should be smart and stay in contact with your prenatal doctor visits. A doctor can monitor your progress in a way that you simply cannot and can give you certain advice that is specific to your body’s needs. Part of this advice can be supplements that include both vitamins as well as fish oil. Many women are not keen on eating fish, but the fatty acids found in fish are critical for brain development and this is where a pill comes in handy.
With the addition of a growing baby, it has been established that the increase in food is really equal to an extra three hundred calories per day. That is not a substantial amount and, by the end of your pregnancy, there is no reason for you to have gained more than thirty pounds overall.
The total amount of weight should not exceed thirty pounds. When it comes to food you should make the choices that you are comfortable, while taking into account that a balanced diet that is full of variety and flavor is the best thing you can do. Staying away from processed and sodium or sugar laden foods is also important. If you have cravings however, and many women do, you should indulge them.
How you go through your pregnancy is a personal choice regardless of the advice you get from the people around you. The tools for living a healthy life have always been at your fingertips and with pregnancy you now have a reason to use them.
