Choosing the Right Color Scheme For Your Nursery

May 20, 2009 by B. Fraley

There are several things that you need to think about when you want to choose the right color scheme for your baby’s nursery. Small children love bright primary colors, but large swatches of red, blue and yellow can be a little over the top. Consider a color scheme that is comfortable for both you and your baby.

As long as you know what you are doing and plan ahead, just about any color scheme can work for you. Remember that there are going to be some things that spook your kids, whether they are certain toys, colors or even cartoon characters, so remember that using clear light colors are important. As your child grows up, his or her needs are going to change and your dcor should as well.

If the nursery is not as bright or as sunny as it could be, look for vibrant warm colors like cranberry, coral, ruby or even barn red to brighten it up. If these colors are a little strong for you, consider peach, primrose or desert pink to warm you up instead.

Don’t forget to balance your color. If you use rich tones on your walls, keep the ceiling, floor and furniture light. Cream, pale blue or green, and white will balance your red walls by providing a cool serenity. If you go with the lighter tones on the walls, like yellow, peach, pink, or melon, accent with furniture, rugs, toys and accessories that go POW.

For a neutral boy/girl look, try a cheery indoor garden approach. Paint the ceiling a light sky blue and add some puffy white clouds, the walls a pale yellow, and the floor neutral – a natural wood tone or a taupe tile. A border paper of pink and white daisies, or pink, blue and white balloons, and a cotton throw rug that looks outdoorsy would be great. The furniture can be white, pale green, or a natural light wood.

If you have your heart set on a whimsical look, do everything permanent in a monochromatic color scheme. For example, you are doing a nursery for your baby girl in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Walls, floor, and ceiling would be lovely in mint green, using its different values by adding white or black to your mix. Then add your colors with bedding, borders, posters or pictures, rug, play table and chairs, etc.

With monochromatic rooms, you are going to have some distinct advantages. Rooms that are designed like this tend to look very large, especially if the ceiling and floor are painted the same color. With a high ceiling in a small room, paint the ceiling darker to give it some weight, and if you have a low ceiling that you’d like to raise, leave the ceiling white.

Because children outgrow their nurseries so quickly, moving up to the next step, toddler, becomes an easy and inexpensive process. The monochromatic color can remain the same. Then all it takes is changing the bed, updating the border on the wall, removing the changing table and adding a play table and chairs and Voila.

Becoming pregnant is one of the most life-changing events a woman goes through. These changes effect women physically, mentally, and emotionally. So obviously you are not going to be the same person you were before. However, it is important for you sanity to keep a little bit of your old self alive. This can be done by keeping up with your style, with a few modifications of course!

Truthfully, it is actually “in-style” to be pregnant these days. So the good news is that there are a lot of options out there for maternity style. The important thing is that you will now have to start dressing modestly. When pregnant women dress like they are going to the club every night – it is just no attractive at all.

Switching to modesty does not mean turning off the sexy factor. However, the definition of sexy does change. As a general rule bellies need to be covered up. More likely than not the tops you were wearing before are not going to cover up your new baby bumb.

Obviously, rule number one in maternity fashion is comfort. Physically your body is already uncomfortable and your clothes do not need to add to that problem. The simplest change you can make in your wardrobe is to substitute your old tops with maternity t shirts.

Your old cute shirts are jst not going to fit over your belly. And just getting bigger t shirts is not flattering at all. However, maternity t shirts get bigger only in the places that you need them too, which is the most flattering.

It is not always necessary to invest in a maternity wardrobe. After all, you are only pregnant for nine months and your body is not even the same size throughout the pregnancy. It is possible to buy regular clothes made out of stretchy materials.

Cute accessories can also be used to make old clothes more appropriate for pregnancy. Use things like scarvs and cardigans if necessary.

Fashion is a good way for women to keep a sense of who they were before the pregnancy. A little bit of effort can go a long way with maternity style.

What is Maternity Acupressure

Labor (or maternity) acupressure is a very effective and safe technique to make childbirth easier and help naturally induce labor at home. It’s entirely safe for both the mother and the baby and no, there are no needles involved.

But what is acupressure? Many people mistake acupressure for acupuncture. It’s true they have a similar name and work in a similar way, but there is one major difference. Acupressure uses fingers instead of needles. It’s a very gentle and safe technique, even for the pregnant mother to be.

Acupressure is an ancient healing art practiced by Chinese people for over 6000 years. It uses fingers and thumbs to apply pressure on acu points that are found on body’s energy pathways called meridians. Pressure on these points releases muscular tension, stimulates circulation of the blood and aids the body with it’s natural self-restorative abilities.

Is there some research evidence that acupressure really works? Yes, many studies have been conducted and they all confirm positive effects of acupressure to some degree. I’m not familiar with any negative conclusions about acupressure. After all, it has been practiced by millions of people for thousands of years.

Acupressure is used for treating a wide variety of ailments. From pain relief (low back pain, labor pain, joint pain, migraine headaches), depression, anxiety, insomnia, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, enuresis, incontinence to many every day illnesses such as colds, headaches, sore muscles and even hangovers.

It can also be very useful during pregnancy and childbirth. During pregnancy it can be used to combat morning sickness, and increase energy levels and overall well-being. When the time comes it can help induce labor naturally, relive labor pains, strengthen contractions and keeping you calm and relaxed.

You’re probably familiar with risks and side effects that come with medical induction. Maternity acupresure is certainly one of the safest and most effective way to induce labor naturally.

Pregnancy and motherhood is obviously a very wonderful experience. However, it does mean that you have to say good-bye to some of your old self. Some women mistakenly believe that one of the things they have to give up is fashion and looking good. However, even though your figure is different and your fashion will have to change – you do not have to give up looking good!

Being pregnant is in style these days. Hollywood is filled with gorgeous pregnant women. So, there are actually a lot of maternity fashion options out there for you. The important thing to note is that the main change you may have to make in your style is modesty. That tube top you wore to the bar that won over your baby daddy is just not going to be attractive on you anymore!

Buying regular dresses made out of stretchy material is another way to go. After the pregnancy you may be able to still wear the dress.

Additionally, you may be able to add certain pieces to the outfits you already have to make them appropriate. For example, maybe you have a favorite t shirt that does not quite fit but you do not want to buy a maternity t shirt. You could get a cardigan to throw over it to cover up the parts that do not fit but still be able to show off the design of the shirt.

Fashion is a good way for women to keep a sense of who they were before the pregnancy. A little bit of effort can go a long way with maternity style.

Got Stretch Marks? Want To Get Rid Of Them?

Are you lucky enough to have become a mum lately? Are you feeling great at having your new baby, but perhaps a little less happy at your new stretch marks?

So many women are concerned about getting rid of their new stretch marks. Not all new mothers have stretch marks to show off, but it’s estimated that over 75% do.

It’s possible to get stretch marks a number of ways, including during puberty, but for many mothers pregnancy was the culprit.

And it even seems to be genetic, as there is an increased risk of stretch marks if your mother had them.

So what options do you have for getting rid of stretch marks?

There are several options, one is to just do nothing and hope they go away. Some mothers just use a simple moisturizer and hope this will be sufficient.

Others can try cosmetic surgery like laser surgery. This can be expensive and also will often result in a less than perfect result, and comes with it’s own risks.

And you can even get specifically designed creams targeted at removing stretch marks, but these too can have risks and may not work.

You could even try micro dermabrasion, though I wouldn’t.

And then there’s a wide range of less intrusive more natural options that take a little time, require some effort and have a good chance of success, are safer and more natural. These include changes to diet, use of exercise, some simple home remedies, stress reduction and some herbal and natural products. Even exercise helps.

Many women don’t realize that there is an alternative more natural, cheaper approach that doesn’t involve some of the expense and risk of some other methods.

Stretch marks are a part of life and birth. If you’re unlucky enough to have them be thankful for your new baby, and also be thankful that there are safe natural ways to combat stretch marks that don’t involve nasty chemicals or surgery.

I’ll tell you about them on my website.

Birth Month Flowers Make Baby Shower Planning Easy

May 15, 2009 by Edie Mindell

Flowers add a special touch to any event, especially celebrations like baby showers. While some choose a type of flower to match a color scheme, others like to use the baby’s predicted birth month flower, or even the flower of the month in which the baby shower will be held. Whether you decide on flowers according to the baby’s birth date, or simply pick the ones that you love the most, this article will break down the significance of each month’s flower.

A great idea might be to choose different flowers based on their meaning and make a beautiful flower arrangement pattern for the shower. There are beautiful baby shower centerpieces that are made from baby clothes called baby bouquets that have to be seen to be believed make unique arrangements. These are some of the best baby shower ideas to be invented in the last few years.

January’s flower is the sweet and sassy carnation. The carnation exerts beauty, distinction, gratitude, fascination, and admiration; the pink carnation in particular represents “a mother’s love.” Soft and gentle on the outside but strong and durable on the inside, the carnation is the perfect flower to represent the bittersweet paradox relating to the first month of the year. The carnation’s scientific name, Dianthus, directly translates into “flower of love.” This flower is one of the oldest cultivated flowers in the world, yet one of the most popular today.

February is the month of love and warmth, and this month’s flower, the iris, denotes deep and profound notes. The iris’ three upright petals each have a meaning; the first is faith, the second is valor, and the third is wisdom. Gracefulness, majesty, and dignity characterize the iris’ presence. Purple, the color of royalty, makes February’s birth flower extravagant and majestic; the iris is truly the flower of splendor and grandeur.

In March, spring begins to arise with bright cheers and rays of sunshine. The daffodil is dainty and yellow, and is the flower that follows after and breaks winter’s cold atmosphere, bringing warmth and joy to the world. The daffodil is the symbol of rebirth, new beginnings, and a fresh start. Daffodils exert happiness and exhilaration to the world, and fill the earth with light and brightness.

April is a paradoxical month, with both rain showers and sunlight. The daisy’s character parallels this paradox, in that it is a feminine yet childlike flower. The legend of the history of daisies is that this precious flower originated from a nymph who transformed herself into a cute-but-not-loud flower, in order to run away from unwanted attention. The daisy is symbolic of eternal youth, playfulness, and a charming child-like character.

The best things about May are the beautiful lilies that decorate beautiful landscapes of the earth. Lilies are sweet and humble; they do not ask for attention but their unconventional beauty inevitably gets compliments and praise. Lilies symbolize virtue, purity and honor.

The middle of the year calls for June’s sunshine, warmth, and gorgeous roses. Roses are the universal icon for love and passion throughout the world. Roses depict beauty and perfection, and they reveal a touch of mystery. Each and every petal is as gracious as the next, and the rose surely stands out in a bouquet.

Whichever flower, month, color or any other category you choose for baby shower planning, you are assured to have a colorful, fun event for celebrating the newborn baby’s birth!

Best Supplements To Get Pregnant

May 15, 2009 by Tracey Edwards

There are many things that you can do when trying to get pregnant that can help you to fall pregnant faster. You can chart your temperature to find out when you ovulate, you can get healthy by eating good foods and exercising and you can take fertility supplements. This article will look at four top vitamins and herbs that can help improve your fertility.

Vitex (Agnus Castus / Chasteberry)

Vitex, which has even been called the natural Clomid, is a great herb for balancing your reproductive hormones. It is often the first supplement that women take to improve their fertility and has helped many women fall pregnant who previously had difficulty.

It’s safe enough to take throughout your entire cycle, although you should stop once you have a confirmed pregnancy. It does take a few months to really impact your hormone levels though so keep taking it for a least three months to see the best benefit.

Vitamin B6

Many women swear by Vitamin B6 in increasing their fertility. Another vitamin that is safe to take throughout your entire cycle, Vitamin B6 helps to balance hormones, increase progesterone and improve cervical fluid.

Many women are deficient in B6 without knowing it and that can cause an excess of estrogen in the body making it difficult to conceive.

It is recommended that you start with around 50mg a day for the first month and see if you notice any changes in your body or cycle.

Dong Quai (Angelica Sinensis Root)

If you have circulation problems then Dong Quai will be able to improve that, especially when it comes to the reproductive system. This is why it’s beneficial to fertility because you need good blood movement to carry the necessary hormones through the blood stream during the various phases of your cycle.

Evening Primrose Oil

Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) is great for improving your cervical fluid and helping you get egg white cervical mucus which is considered the most fertile cervical fluid that you can have. It should only be taken in the first half of your cycle until you ovulate.

How to Conceive a Girl Baby

May 12, 2009 by Tracey Edwards

If youve been doing any research online to improve your chances of conceiving a girl then you no doubt have found that most of the different methods are contradictory. Some claim you should have sex as close to ovulation as possible for a girl and others suggest trying to conceive at least 5 days before and no sooner. So which method is right?

This article will look at some of the more popular gender selection methods for conceiving a girl and their success rates so you can decide which one is best for you.

Shettles Method

The Shettles method is probably the most popular gender selection method that most couples attempt when the start trying for a girl or boy baby. It relies on timing depending on your ovulation day. For a girl, Shettles recommends that you have lovemaking around three to five days prior to your ovulation day so that the female sperm (who tend to live longer) have an increased chance of getting to the egg first.

Shettles devotee’s admit that it isn’t guaranteed however, and only say that you have a 77% chance of getting a female child.

Method: Whelan

When it comes to timing, the Whelan method is the exact opposite of when the Shettles Method says you must do your lovemaking. The Whelan method says that to get a girl baby you should have intercourse on the day you see your temperature rise (you need to chart your basal body temperature for this method to be successful) as that gives the best chance of falling pregnant with a female child.

The success rate for the Whelan method is claimed to be around 57% for a girl.

O+12 Method (ovulation plus twelve method)

Becoming more popular with women trying for a girl baby is the O+12 method which states that you should have intercourse around twelve hours after you believe you have ovulated to get pregnant with a girl. This method was developed by a New Zealand lady after she had six unsuccessful attempts at trying for girl (she had boys each time) using the Shettles method.

This method is somewhat hard to implement because it relies on knowing the exact moment that you ovulate (unless you have an ultrasound machine handy – this can be difficult to determine), however devotee’s claim a very high 90% success rate.

Choosing Comfortable Baby Crib Bedding Sets for Your Baby

May 11, 2009 by Bethany Bien

If you’re going to be having a baby soon, you’re going to need to think about putting together a nursery. In addition to paint, furniture, and decorations, you’ll have to consider which baby linens you’re going to purchase. There are plenty of options on the market, but not all of them are comfortable or safe. The enormous variety of baby crib bedding sets can make things pretty tricky. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and aren’t sure which linens are going to be the most comfortable for your little darling, here’s some information that could help.

Comfort and safety should be your first priority when purchasing baby linens. After all, newborns need a lot of special care, due to their thin, delicate skin. Choose fabrics that will be soft and gentle. Fortunately, you can purchase plenty of excellent baby crib bedding sets without having to break the budget. While there are a number of excellent designer linen sets out there, comfort and quality are available at a much lower price for those who know how to shop.

You need to make sure you’re picking fabrics that are right for the baby’s age. Cotton is generally preferable, since it’s soft, durable, and generally nontoxic. However, concerns about chemical residues in conventionally produced cotton are leading a lot more people to choose organic cotton baby linens for their children. These baby crib bedding sets are produced using less toxic chemicals, and may be healthier. There’s an increase in cost that goes with them, however.

Safety and comfort are imperative when it comes to choosing your bedding, and you should also minimize the material in your baby’s crib as much as possible. Positioners, bumpers and other objects may in fact be safety hazards to your baby, in addition to being uncomfortable. Choose simple bedding to keep your child both safe and comfortable. You can also choose any number of patterns and styles to go with the decor in the room and to match your desires or the needs of your little one.

To find comfortable baby crib bedding sets, just choose durable, washable, soft fabrics that have a high percentage of cotton in them. It’s usually best to go with 100% cotton if you can, and those with the lowest chemical residues are also safer. You’ll have lots of options out there for you that are both comfortable and safe for your baby, and they look great, too. Make sure gentleness and softness are first in the list of needs when it comes to your baby’s bedding, and you and your new little one should have no difficulties.
