Understanding The Expectations That Come Along With A New Baby
September 8, 2010 Filed under pregnancy
Though it may be one of the most amazing experiences in a person’s life, bringing a new baby into the family is a challenge, and somethings that new parents will contend with in some, perhaps unexpected ways.
Babies do not sleep like grown ups. This is just one of the many changes that new parents must adapt to in their new life of child rearing. Babies only sleep for, like, two hours at a time.
You will eventually adjust your lifestyle to the changes that come to you. But at first, the lack of sleep will lead to problems like stress and crankiness throughout the days.
When you become a parent, you will have an upheaval in your social life also. This is not surprising, everything will take a lot of time and effort to make it happen. Even a trip to grandma’s is a major ordeal for new baby families.
Your friends, especially those without children of their own, will tend to be difficult to keep in touch with the way you did before. But you can make the effort and you will maintain those ties.
But the benefits are there also. There are parents who just report all sorts of warm gushy feelings as they move into parental roles in their lives. But they also become protective and more maternal or paternal, whatever the case may be. Both parents say this, to each other, as they lay in bed talking about it.
You will see that the world effects more than just yourself anymore. You will anticipate the things that have an effect on your child outside yourself and your spouse.
Keeping all of this in mind will help you to anticipate all of these changes that will happen to you and your family. It is important to have a support system in place to help cope with these things.
